So now another race is over, for the tenth time we paddled around Malmö canal during 24 hours. There was over 100 registered before start and 85 participated in the race – a record number of contestants and a record distance achieved!
The weather forecast before was a little frightening, some rain and a lot of wind. But on Saturday morning the sun showed up again and it felt ok. Most of us could probably have done with less wind but it did not stop the gold medalists. The whole group from Germany did really well and Eric Trocha managed nearly 182 km. Juha-Pekka drove down with his family from Finland the day before and reached 183 km. In a sea kayak. But the most impressive paddling was done by Sebastian Szubski from Poland. After 24 hours he was back at the club again, as the last man on shore, after 233 km. We are used to Polacks achieving long distances before but this was truly amazing!
Jacob, me and Malmö Kanotklubb would like to thank everybody! All the paddlers, young and old, strong and superhuman, from all clubs and all countries!
Now we take a break. But hope to meet you again, maybe here in Malmö or on other waters..!
